An old currant vineyard caught his eye and, 33 years ago, he transformed it into a Chenin Blanc oasis with Rob. The fruit is now dry-grown and organically farmed by Rob and Genevieve Mann. A portion was fermented and matured in seasoned French oak demi-muids for seven months prior to blending and bottling. The wine is all energy and texture – honeydew melon, Pink Lady apple, grapefruit flesh and lemon sabayon wrapped in a waxy, saline frame. There’s a flicker of pressed fennel fronds, a hint of citrus blossom and that unmistakable Rocket’s crystalline clarity we know and love.
