Mark Messenger aims to craft fine, elegant cabernet sauvignon, and it helps that the Wilyabrup vineyard has some decent vine age - planted in '73. It forms 88% of the blend with petit verdot, malbec and merlot doing their bit for more complexity. Regional flavours of mulberries, currants, cassis, florals and eucalypt are perfectly pitched to the cedary and integrated oak, flowing through to the medium-full-bodied palate where the poised tannins await.
