The critics points & reviews:

2004 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
94 points - The Wine Front
Those cool bay leaf notes, that ooze of blackcurrant, that beautiful integration of olives and leaves in among the sweet rip of curranty fruit. There’s a powdery cocoa/chocolate note here but it’s so neatly integrated, and is a positive anyways. This is a lovely Bin 407, structured, fresh and, in its own way, effortless.

2007 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
94 points - Jeremy Oliver
Stylish, structured and finely crafted, this impressive young cabernet reveals a minty aroma of cassis, violets, dark cherries and small red berry fruits neatly interwoven with cedar/dark chocolate oak. Its slightly vegetal undertones of dried herbs should become more tobacco-like with time in the bottle. Smooth and silky, its spotless and pristine palate of vibrant, juicy small berry fruits and fine-grained oak is framed by a fine cut of firm tannin. A very correct cabernet indeed, even with the presence of some genuinely valid cooler characters.

2012 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
95 points - The Wine Front
I find myself more and more attracted to Bin 407 as a wine. In the Penfolds line-up it always or increasingly stands clear as a celebration of its variety more than of the Penfolds house. This release is dusty, flecked with tobacco, sweet-fruited and perfectly polished, but it’s all olive tapanade and herb and stem through the finish. There’s ripe fruit and sweet oak, but there’s leaf, and therefore life. This release lingers beautifully, has a sense of precision to its structure, and should age grandly.

2013 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
94 points - The Halliday Wine Companion
An interesting regional blend from McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and the Barossa Valley; it spent 12 months in 26% new French hogsheads, the remainder in new (12%) and used American hogsheads. Like all the '13 Penfolds red releases, has very good colour, and unquestioned varietal character from the first whiff through to the finish and aftertaste. It has elegance, balance and a restrained mediumbodied persona. It fully reflects the long arm Penfolds has with its fruit sourcing. Drink to 2033.

2019 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
98 points - David Sly, Decanter
Cabernet Sauvignon has provided a high point in Penfolds tastings through recent years, and this beauty seduces from the first whiff. Showing note-perfect varietal aromas, with a breeze of ripe purple fruit over fresh, leafy herbs and rich red earth, the perfume is full and persistent. The entry is sharp and arresting, with fruit purity on point and channelled down the right corridors by supple tannins and a clean acid seam. It shows exemplary balance through to the long finish.

2020 Penfolds 'Bin 407' Cabernet Sauvignon
96 points - The Halliday Wine Companion
An unambiguously good cabernet in the mainstream of Penfolds' vast knowledge of South Australia's hot (meaning good) spots for the variety. It's a polished, well-balanced expression, with winemaker Andrew Hales having made some lovely Coonawarra cabernets along the way.
Sourced from vineyards in McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Padthaway and Wrattonbully. Matured for 15 months in French (24% new) and American (12% new) hogsheads.
