2004 Cabernet Sauvignons from Margaret River
96 Points, Huon Hooke – The Real Review
Deep youthful red colour, the bouquet lovely and mellow with abundant developed, herbal characters giving it a tobacco note. Vanilla and chocolate notes. Cedar, cigar box and cassis as well. Very cabernet. Very intense and powerfully structured, typical of the producer. Incredible length and seemingly abundant alcohol. Acidity is a trifle obvious. A superb wine and a pleasant surprise.

The best Leeuwin Estate cabernet yet released has a smoky cedary bouquet of subdued dark plum berry violet and cassis-like aroma that takes plenty of time to unfold becoming quite heady in the process Its long smooth and polished with handsomely ripened flavours of plums berries and assertive polished vanilla oak underpinned by firm astringent tannin The slightly baked characters that unravel shortly after opening do tend to dissipate with time in the glass and this wine should cellar with some distinction
94 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
The fruit flavours fully ripe, tasting of red and blackcurrants mainly, with classy cedar oak supporting but not dominating and regional gum leaf and gravel in the mix adding complexity. A stately, classic and well structured Cabernet (clean strong acid and fine dry tannins a feature) with good length. Really like the sort of “liquorice bullet” aftertaste too. I suspect this will be really good as a mature wine.
