Luscious and silky, with complex flavors of black cherry, plum, sweet wood smoke, licorice and bacon. Powerful and persistent, this delivers terrific balance and a lingering aftertaste of spice and mineral notes.
94 Points, Burghound
A moderately floral nose speaks of wood spice, pungent earth and freshly crushed red currant aromas that precede the big-bodied and powerful flavors that possess real verve on the well-defined, intense and balanced finish. This genuinely wonderful effort is relatively fine for a Clos de Vougeot and there is less youthful austerity than is typical.

The 2009 Clos Vougeot from Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat also shows just a touch of the fruitcake that is found in the Beaumonts this year, but also delivers a complex nose of cherries, plums, coffee, woodsmoke, hints of game, vanillin oak and minerals. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and suave on the attack, with a sappy core of fruit, good, zesty acidity, ripe tannins and excellent length and grip on the fairly fruit-driven, but nascently complex finish. The domaine makes one of my absolutely favorite examples of Clos Vougeot, and even in the riper guise of the 2009 vintage, the quality here is unmistakable. 92+
