Average Critic Score: 94.75/100 based on 4 critic reviews

Camp Gros is the top selection from Martinenga, the celebrated single vineyard in Barbaresco owned entirely by Marchesi di Gresy, and it is released only as a Riserva after extended ageing. The 2015 Marchesi di Gresy Barbaresco Camp Gros Riserva comes from a warm, generous vintage that gave the wine extra richness and textural weight. James Suckling awarded it 97 points, Monica Larner (Wine Advocate) 96 points, and Antonio Galloni (Vinous) and Wine Spectator 93+ and 93 points respectively.

Wonderfully perfumed with cedar, sandalwood and ripe strawberries, but subtle and very fine. It's medium-bodied with integrated tannins. Extremely long and focused. Superb. - James Suckling (97 pts)

Suggested drinking window: 2024 - 2043 (Wine Spectator).

Critic Reviews

97 Points - James Suckling

“Wonderfully perfumed with cedar, sandalwood and ripe strawberries, but subtle and very fine. It's medium-bodied with integrated tannins. Extremely long and focused. Superb. Drinkable now, but better in 2022.”

96 Points - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

“Next to the 2016 vintage, this wine from 2015 reminds us of the broad, rich and thick textural support that characterizes this warm vintage. The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga moves slowly and smoothly over the palate, imparting robust and soft fruit flavors along the way. It is open and generous, but it doesn't give away too much at once. It gives, then holds back and then gives again. I doubled decanted my sample before tasting it, and you can play that give-and-take forward for some time as the wine aerates in the glass. I would love to revisit this Riserva in 10 years' time. Exactly 7,226 bottles will be released in September 2020.”

93 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros is a powerful, burly wine. There is a good bit of depth to the red-toned fruit, but the tannins are pretty overpowering. I am not used to seeing this level of aggressiveness in the Camp Gros. Hopefully time will help the 2015 find a bit better balance. For now, the 2015 is a wine to bury in a deep corner of the cellar.”

93 Points - Wine Spectator

“Aromas of vanilla and spicy oak embrace the cherry and plum flavors here. Tar, tobacco and eucalyptus accents chime in as a thick matrix of tannins truncates the finish. It feels chunky today, yet should stretch out in time. Best from 2024 through 2043. 602 cases made.”
