Average Critic Score: 92.0/100

The 2016 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin in Jeroboam (3L) was produced with 30% whole bunch and 30% new oak, reduced by 30% due to frost. Neal Martin of The Wine Advocate awarded it 92-94 points, Stephen Tanzer of Vinous 90-92 points, and Allen Meadows of Burghound 90 points.

A well-defined blackberry and wild strawberry bouquet with subtle rose petal aromas. The palate is well balanced with supple red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, just a subtle chalkiness to the texture, with a very mineral-rich aftertaste. - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate (92-94 pts)

Critic Reviews

94 Points - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

“The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs was reduced by 30% production, with 30% whole bunch and 30% new oak. It has a well-defined blackberry and wild strawberry bouquet with subtle rose petal aromas. The palate is well balanced with supple red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, just a subtle chalkiness to the texture toward the finish, but a very mineral-rich aftertaste in situ. This is a replica of the brilliant 2015. (92-94 pts)”

92 Points - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

“(30% vendange entier): Bright red-ruby. Very ripe black raspberry and chocolate aromas are lifted by a sexy floral perfume. Finer-grained and a bit more energetic than the negociant village Gevrey, displaying excellent delineation but also a velvety texture for 2016. I like the combination of medicinal reserve and ripe, integrated acidity here. The very long, slowly rising finish saturates the palate, leaving behind an almost port-like ripeness without any heaviness. (90-92 pts)”

90 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

“*Outstanding* (from En Motrot, En Deree, Combe de Dessus, Au Velle and En Champs). A ripe, ultra-fresh and airy nose features notes of red cherry, pungent earth and plenty of sauvage character. The sleek, intense and muscular medium-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of energy on the lingering if slightly warm finish. This is a terrific Gevrey villages and well-worth checking out.”
