This is made from a small block planted in 1976 by WA's Department of Agriculture as a trial to ascertain the suitability of cabernet in the Margaret River. Some years ago, Mandoon Estate acquired the neglected block and rehabilitated it. In recent years it has consistently produced award-winning wines. Given the Margaret River's great 2018 vintage, it is no surprise to find this a magical, succulent, cabernet. Its richness comes at 14% alc, another reason I am so enamoured of it.
96 Points, Ray Jordan, WinePilot
Smooth, powerful and hugely concentrated, yet delivered with such poise. These vines dating back to the 1970s are some of the first planted in Margaret River. Dark blackcurrant and chocolate characters emerge on the nose. There’s a distinctive seaweed oyster shell minerality on the nose. The palate is structured with a firm spine delving deep into the opulent intensely flavoured fruit.
