At the age of 25, Xavier Durand, a third-generation winemaker, took over his family's estate. He made the strategic decision to focus on his own family vineyards instead of rented ones to ensure better control over the quality and health of the vines. Over the years, Xavier has gradually expanded his holdings, acquiring small parcels of high-quality vineyards. Today, his estate spans 17 acres in the prestigious central Côte d’Or, covering notable appellations like Corton, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Aloxe-Corton, from which this particular cuvée hails. The vines at Domaine Xavier Durand are aged between 35 and 80 years, contributing to the wines' depth and complexity. The Les Charmois Pinot Noir, grown in light and sandy soil in Aloxe-Corton, offers a softer and more approachable profile compared to typical Nuits-Saint-Georges wines.
