Darmagi is Angelo Gaja's famous act of defiance: Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the heart of Barbaresco, a move his father greeted with the Piedmontese phrase that gave the wine its name, roughly meaning what a pity. Decades on, the 2019 Gaja Darmagi Langhe Cabernet Sauvignon stands as one of Italy's most distinctive expressions of the grape, carrying the Gaja house signature of polish, precision and longevity into a variety the Langhe was never supposed to grow.
Released under the Langhe appellation, Darmagi is made by the estate that put Barbaresco on the world stage, and it is treated with the same seriousness as the family's great Nebbiolo crus. A wine to cellar with confidence or open for a special occasion.
