2020 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Charlie

Critic Reviews
97 Points - James Suckling
“Fascinating, almost decadent aromas of salted butter, brioche, flowers and apples. Round and dense yet fresh and rather weightless on the palate. Subtle flavors of chalk and stones with rich bread, some pie crust, cream and cooked apples. A complex, handmade quality. Mostly chardonnay from Cramant and Avize. Pinot noir from Bouzy and Vertus. 4.5 years on the lees. Dosage 9 g/L. Disgorged 2024. Drink now.”
95 Points - Kristaps Karklins, Wine Advocate
“Based on the 2019 vintage, drawn from Bouzy and Vertus, and incorporating around 45% reserve wines-including significant proportions of 2009 Avize and 1996 Cramant-the latest NV Champagne Charlie Cellared in 2020 unveils a deep bouquet of nashi pear, peach, burnt butter toast, candied orange and lychee, mingling with quince and a touch of Sichuan pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied and broad-shouldered, ample and textural, with a demonstrative fruit core, tangy acidity and pinpoint mousse, culminating in an expansive, saline-tinged finish. Marrying plenitude with tension, it was disgorged in 2024 with a dosage of eight grams per liter and is composed of 66% Chardonnay and 34% Pinot Noir.”
95 Points - Wine Spectator
“Rich and toasty, with a panoply of baked white cherry and raspberry fruit, lemon curd, brioche and smoked almond flavors, yet the vibrant acidity and fine integration provide a graceful, silk-weight frame. Long and creamy, with zesty hints of crystallized honey and candied ginger on the finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2035. 50 cases imported.”
