Bonnes-Mares straddles Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis and is prized for marrying Chambolle perfume with Morey structure. Bouchard Pere & Fils, one of the oldest houses in Beaune, draws on its own holding in the Grand Cru for this wine. The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was made entirely from whole bunches and is the most highly rated of Bouchard's 2021 Grands Crus from William Kelley (Wine Advocate), who gave it 92-94 points for its purity, concentration and long, penetrating finish. Neal Martin (Vinous) scored it 90-92 points.
The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is youthfully reticent, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, coniferous forest floor, exotic spices, smoked duck and orange zest. “The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which includes 100% whole bunches, has quite a pronounce steaminess on the nose, more than the Echezeaux. The palate is quite effervescent on the entry, creamy in texture, though it lacks the complexity and focus of Bouchard's other Grand Crus and tapers slightly towards the finish. It just misses the flair of other vintages. (90-92 pts)”
