2023 Pierrick Bouley Pommard

Pierrick Bouley has emerged as one of the most exciting young names in the Cote de Beaune, crafting perfumed, precise Pinot Noir from a small domaine centred on Volnay and Pommard. His 2023s earned enthusiastic barrel scores from the world's leading Burgundy critics for their finesse, purity of red fruit and beautifully refined tannins.

Bouley's village Pommard now comes from just over a hectare across the Chaffaud and La Vache lieux-dits. Typically fuller and more structured than his Volnay, the 2023 shows ripe, warm-climate Pommard fruit with well-integrated tannins.

Now a larger cuvee with additional vines post 2022. Some is in Chaffaud, some is La Vache. Over 1ha in all now. A rich mid purple with very attractively balanced ripe fruit, typical of warmer climate Pommard. Generous weight, still a tannin or two but well integrated, overall a little riper in style. Here the less expressive nose is both slightly riper and much earthier with its array of poached plum, dark berries and a whiff of humus character. There is fine volume and better mid-palate density to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess a caressing, even velvety, texture while concluding in a lingering and slightly firmer finale. The 2023 Pommard Village comes from a single hectare after Bouley bought another half hectare that is divided between two parcels. This has a lovely, well-defined, quite floral bouquet, and is perhaps a little more sophisticated than the Volnay Village. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, fine grip, plenty of freshness and a touch of chalkiness on the finish.
