Average Critic Score: 92.67/100

Pierrick Bouley has emerged as one of the most exciting young names in the Cote de Beaune, crafting perfumed, precise Pinot Noir from a small domaine centred on Volnay and Pommard. His 2023s earned enthusiastic barrel scores from the world's leading Burgundy critics for their finesse, purity of red fruit and beautifully refined tannins.

Volnay is the beating heart of the Bouley domaine, and the village cuvee captures its signature: silky, floral and beautifully balanced, with entirely refined tannins and lovely persistence.

Critic Reviews

93 points - Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
The entry-level Volnay from Pierrick Bouley boasts a dark ruby/garnet colour and a sweet, plummy fruit with notes of spice and smoke. The structure is silky, with well-managed tannins yet enough freshness to keep the wine dynamic on the palate. The blend represents one third of the total surface of the domaine, 2.5ha over 13 different parcels. Despite the generosity of the vintage, Bouley kept yields to a modest 35hl/ha through green harvesting and severe sorting.

93 points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The regular blend. The lighter side of purple. Once again, the exquisite bouquet of this vintage chez Pierrick is on display. A fine balance between fruit and acidity, the tannins entirely refined, properly persistent. (Original score: 90-93 points)

92 points - Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2023 Volnay Village (24 months in barrel) sees no new oak in its second year. This has a perfumed bouquet with wild strawberry and raspberry, crushed rose petals and light sous-bois aromas that manifest with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, vanilla extract and brown spices. Lovely, caressing and harmonious on the finish. The extended elevage works really well here. (Drink between 2028-2038) (Original score: 90-92 points)
