The 172ème Édition, built around the 2016 vintage, opens with delicate, floral and saline notes at this early stage of its life. The palate is taut and tightly wound, slowly unfurling into flavours of toasted fruit bread, rye bread and roasted nuts, all wrapped around an intricate, chiselled lemon core. Exceptionally long, spicy, rounded and spherical, it finishes with notes of sweet unsalted butter. The blend comprises 146 individual wines across 11 vintages, with 58% from 2016 and reserve wines stretching back to 1998. A wine of remarkable balance and finesse.

Gentle, creamy citrus purity with subtle toastiness. Aromas of clementine, jasmine and layers of delicate flavour complexity evolve with time in the glass. A hint of ginger adds lift. Intense, piercing and beautifully perfumed, showing its sweetness slightly on the finish, though perfectly balanced overall. The autolytic character remains refined and understated, giving an impression of orange blossom and fine texture.
