Average Critic Score: 97.25/100

Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger's prestige cuvee, drawn entirely from grand cru Chardonnay in Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Chouilly. A small portion of the blend is matured in oak before the wine rests a decade on lees in the fourth-century Gallo-Roman chalk cellars beneath Saint-Nicaise in Reims. Presented in the Taittinger gift box.

The cool 2014 vintage has delivered a 'Comtes' destined for classic status. This is the finest flowering of the blanc de blanc style, a wine of staggering beauty, intricately etched detail and the kind of elegance that takes the breath away. It's an almost endless maze of nougat and white peaches, shortcrust pastry and preserved lemons, everything aligned and harmonious. - Nick Ryan, The Australian (98 points)

One of the most decorated Comtes releases in memory: 97 points apiece from Antonio Galloni at Vinous, Yohan Castaing at The Wine Advocate and Claire Nesbitt at JamesSuckling.com, plus 17.5/20 from both Jancis Robinson and Richard Hemming MW. Galloni describes it as "a mini-2008" and notes it can be enjoyed now or cellared; Castaing gives it the potential to age gracefully over the next 30 to 40 years.

Critic Reviews

98 Points - Nick Ryan, The Australian

“The cool 2014 vintage has delivered a 'Comtes' destined for classic status. Built on a beautifully fine acid line, finely woven with expressive grapefuit and white peach characters and finishing with a micro-fine chalkiness. Reviewed 31 December 2025.”

97 Points - Claire Nesbitt, JamesSuckling.com

“Apricots, hazelnuts, lemons, white flowers, sliced almonds and hints of licorice on the nose. It's creamy and layered, with soft, rounded bubbles that spread across the palate. Lovely balance of breadth, ripeness and freshness, with delicious wildflower honey and nut notes lingering. 100% grand cru chardonnay from Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Chouilly. Drink or hold. Reviewed 11 July 2025.”

97 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“The 2014 Comtes de Champagne is pristine. In this tasting, it comes across as a mini-2008, similar in its linear personality, with just a touch more mid-palate creaminess. Readers will find a Comtes that plays in the realm of tension and energy. Citrus confit, white flowers, chalk, mint and chamomile are all finely sketched. Light tropical overtones grace the finish. What an absolute delight. The 2014 can be enjoyed now or cellared. Dosage is 9 grams per liter. Reviewed 1 April 2025.”

97 Points - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

“Closed in style and character like the 2013, Taittinger's 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne reveals aromas of ripe orchard fruit, confit citrus, dried flowers, herbs, spring blossoms and mirabelle mingled with customary autolytic notes. Full-bodied, seamless and enrobing, it has a delicate, elegant, fleshy core of fruit and racy acids, all enhanced by a saline, fresh and penetrating finish marked by finesse and elegance. This refined, chalk-inflected Comtes de Champagne has the potential to age gracefully over the next 30-40 years. Reviewed 24 October 2024.”
