The 2017 Clos Saint-Jacques has a very perfumed bouquet, beautifully defined with fragrant raspberry preserve, wild strawberry, rose petal and crushed granite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Not the most powerful or complex CSJ, yet it is utterly harmonious and so silky smooth on the finish that it becomes irresistible. Sensual and firmly in contention for the top Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage.

Domaine Rousseau owns one-third of Clos Saint-Jacques, including the warmest section against the wall. This 2017 combines impressive depth and structure with the hallmark freshness of this Premier Cru. Aged in 70% new oak, it shows the concentration and texture to age superbly in bottle.

The 2017 Rousseau Clos Saint-Jacques shows a slightly more reserved profile but tremendous promise. The bouquet is primary and pure, with red and black cherries, plums, gamebird notes, hazelnut, raw cocoa and a very complex soil-driven base, framed by gentle vanillin oak. The palate is deep, full-bodied and seamless, with superb purity on the attack, a strong core of fruit, outstanding mineral definition and a very long, vibrant, ripely tannic finish. Great juice.
