This wine stands out for its elegance and ephemeral personality. The Domenico Clerico 2020 Barolo Bussia Bricotto has a pretty fruit profile with cherry cola, dried strawberry and a fragrant floral character of rose or hibiscus. The fruit takes center stage, and there is some light spice with shadings of cinnamon stick and nutmeg. The wine has good acidity and structure. This was the first vineyard purchased by the late Domenico Clerico in 1976, and this is the new, restyled version. Production is limited to 980 bottles.
95 Points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast
The wine opens with a gentle fusion of wild mint, warm strawberries, and black cherries, enhanced by a sprinkle of spices and a layer of savory herbs. It then transitions into a more savory, earthy territory with a subtle umami essence. Nuances of wild berries, a hint of orange zest, and rosebud are delicately interlaced, culminating in a smooth finish marked by fine, seamlessly integrated tannins. Drink Now through 2040

From Bussia Soprana, a sandy site at 320 m. West facing. They have raised the canopy and added cover crops. Aged in a small botte. Oxidises easily. They are apparently finally happy with the result. 2019 was made in a slightly natural style with 50% whole bunch because winemaker Oscar Arrivabene was just back from Burgundy – but he says the result tasted like bubble gum! The 2020 had just 20% whole bunch. 1,000 bottles made.
Pale ruby. Intense and heady – very aromatic. But fine tannins and fine, sophisticated fruit on the palate. Some mineral quality. (JR)
