Givry, Côte Chalonnaise
Domaine Thénard
Since 1760
The Thénard family has owned vines in Givry since 1760, and the estate as it stands was founded in 1842 by Paul Thénard, son of the famous chemist and baron Louis-Jacques Thénard. Its heart is here in the Côte Chalonnaise, where it farms the leading premier crus of Givry, several of them monopoles. Yet the estate is known the wine world over for something rarer: it holds the second-largest parcel of Le Montrachet, the most celebrated dry white vineyard in existence, along with plots of Corton Clos du Roi and Pernand-Vergelesses. The reds are made traditionally, in century-old open wooden vats with gentle, low-oak ageing. This is a domaine of quiet grandeur, offering both honest Givry and one of the great trophies of Burgundy.

The Indent Offer.
Our pre-arrival offer is open. Under the en primeur system you reserve the wines before they reach Australia, and in return we hold them at heavily reduced indent prices for pre-payment. Quantities are limited, so orders are filled first come, first served.
To secure your indent order, you can purchase the wines below directly through the online store. Alternatively, to reserve any of these wines, you can call or email your order through to the team at Cottesloe. We will hold your bottles at the indent price, with payment required before the wines arrive in August, and confirm pick up or delivery once the container lands.

2018 Domaine Thenard Montrachet
Indent price: $1,478.00 per bottle
97 points. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The Domaine has two plots of Montrachet, lucky people, the one on the Chassagne side being planted in 1945. A fair proportion is sold in bulk to certain regular customers but a few barrels are kept for their own use. There is one new barrel from each of their five tonneliers (plus a couple in older wood) and we had great fun tasting each of the new barrels. There were some taste differences: a touch of coconut from Cadus, sweeter fruit from Seguin Moreau, elegance from Tremeaux, more exotic from Rousseau and perhaps more fascinating was where the fruit sat on the palate: in the middle from Cadus, evenly spread from Rousseau and with a surge to the back from Chassin, which offered the most complete experience of the five. Talking of complete, here is the note on the combined blend, including the older wood: Fresh pale yellow gold colour with a light green inflection. This is followed by a delicious complex and balanced nose, with many layers, a clear sense of distinction, a burst of sunshine fruit at the front of the palate which is then maintained through to an even finish. Balanced and juicy with a long, perfumed aftertaste. Original score: 94-97 points
2018 Domaine Thenard Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines Blanc

2018 Domaine Thenard Corton Clos du Roi
Indent price: $180.00 per bottle
93 points. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Medium deep colour, not as dark as some. Having found some volatility in a couple of earlier wines I was looking for it here as part of the flavoursome nose. There is indeed a very attractive with sweet dark fruit, nicely balanced and a touch of acidity. Original score: 90-93 points
