La Tène

IGP Pays d'Oc

La Tène

La Tène is a project from a Beaune wine house, named for the Celtic culture of ancient Burgundy, that looks south for its fruit. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown high in the limestone hills of Limoux, near the foot of the Pyrenees, where altitude keeps the wines fresh and lively. The aim is straightforward and honest: the elegance of white Burgundy with a southern-French soul, made with restraint and offered at an everyday price. These are unpretentious, well-made wines for drinking young and often.

La Tène

La Tène is not Burgundy in the strict sense, but it is very much born from a Burgundian idea. Created by the father-and-daughter team behind Vins Divins in Beaune, Mike and Cara, the project looks beyond Burgundy for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown on suitable limestone and clay soils, aiming for wines with freshness, fragrance and a Burgundian sense of shape, without the Burgundian price.

There is also a lovely historical thread to the label. La Tène takes its name from the ancient Celtic art movement, and pays tribute to the Aedui, the early vine growers of Burgundy. It gives the wines a slightly romantic, old-world feeling, but the pleasure is very practical: honest, bright, well-made French drinking with a nod to Burgundy and a much friendlier price.
