Domaine Jean Monnier

Meursault, Burgundy

Domaine Jean Monnier

Since 1720

Domaine Jean Monnier has worked the slopes of Meursault since 1720, which makes it one of the oldest family estates in Burgundy. It is run today by Nicolas Monnier, the sixteenth generation, alongside his father Jean-Claude. Unusually for the Côte de Beaune, the domaine makes near-equal amounts of white and red, with old-vine holdings across Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, Volnay and Beaune. The whites are barrel-fermented and given long lees ageing for richness and depth, the reds a cold soak before oak. The result is a cellar of generous, classically built wines that carry their history lightly.

Domaine Jean Monnier

Established in 1720 in Meursault, Domaine Jean Monnier is one of the oldest established properties in Burgundy, but current owner Nicolas Monnier's family has been involved in the trade far longer - he is a 16th-generation winemaker.

The estate is composed of 17 hectares with parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard and Beaune, planted primarily with old vines ranging from 25 to 60 years of age. Monnier is one of the few producers in Meursault to produce equal amounts of white and red wines. The whites are complex and rich due to prolonged lees contact in oak, followed by 12 to 18 months maturation before being bottled. In order to extract as much fruit as possible, Nicolas does a cold maceration for his reds prior to oak ageing, a modern technique that has enhanced the quality of the wines. The Puligny-Montrachet is sourced from a single plot of marly brown limestone and treated to an extended fermentation in stainless steel.

The Indent Offer.

Our pre-arrival offer is open. Under the en primeur system you reserve the wines before they reach Australia, and in return we hold them at heavily reduced indent prices for pre-payment. Quantities are limited, so orders are filled first come, first served.

To secure your indent order, you can purchase the wines below directly through the online store. Alternatively, to reserve any of these wines, you can call or email your order through to the team at Cottesloe. We will hold your bottles at the indent price, with payment required before the wines arrive in August, and confirm pick up or delivery once the container lands.
