Clos de Citeaux is a walled monopole of Domaine Jean Monnier, almost three hectares inside the Grands Epenots premier cru. The land was given to the Cistercian monks of Citeaux in the thirteenth century and has held their name ever since. Epenots is the most refined corner of Pommard, and the wine follows suit: dark berry and plum, a note of game and spice, firm tannins wrapped in a silky frame. Built to reward patience.
Domaine Jean Monnier (Meursault) One of Burgundy's oldest family estates, working the Côte de Beaune since 1720, now in its sixteenth generation under Nicolas Monnier. Unusually makes near-equal white and red across Meursault, Puligny, Pommard, Volnay and Beaune; generous, classically built wines.
