The Monnier family has worked Meursault since 1720 and is now in the hands of Nicolas Monnier, the sixteenth generation. This is the house Meursault at its most generous, a blend of old vines from several village plots, barrel-fermented and aged on its lees. Meursault grows no grand crus, so its reputation rests on characterful village wines like this one: rich, rounded and built around old-vine depth.
Domaine Jean Monnier (Meursault) One of Burgundy's oldest family estates, working the Côte de Beaune since 1720, now in its sixteenth generation under Nicolas Monnier. Unusually makes near-equal white and red across Meursault, Puligny, Pommard, Volnay and Beaune; generous, classically built wines.
“Lemons, cedar, apricots and toasted nuts on the nose of this full-bodied, creamy white. Buttery on the palate, with delicious, fleshy layers. Drink now.”
