Asti, Piedmont
Il Cascinone
Il Cascinone is a Piedmont estate in the Monferrato hills near Asti, working old-vine fruit across the region. It has built a name for serious, characterful wines that drink well above their price, led by a range of Barbera that runs from approachable, fruit-forward bottlings to single-vineyard selections off sixty-year-old vines. The wines are smooth, generous and reliably good value, an easy way into the warmth and charm of Piedmontese reds.

2023 Barbera d'Asti d'Annona
Indent price: $36.00 per bottle
D'Annona is a step up, a single-vineyard selection from sixty-year-old vines at Fontanile, hand-harvested and given more time and care. The result is the more serious Barbera: concentrated dark fruit, a savoury depth and a longer, firmer finish, with the structure to take a few years. Old-vine character at a price that still surprises.
2023 Rive Barbera d'Asti
Indent price: $29.00 per bottle
Araldica is one of Piedmont's most respected growers, and this Barbera comes from its Il Cascinone estate in the Monferrato hills near Asti. Rive draws on prime slopes for a smooth, fruit-forward style: ripe black cherry and plum, fresh acidity and a whisper of oak, with the easy drinkability Barbera does so well. Honest, generous and remarkable value.
