Why we follow Domaine Jamet
The estate
A revered Côte-Rôtie grower in Ampuis. In 2013 brothers Jean-Paul and Jean-Luc Jamet divided the roughly 16-hectare family estate evenly into two properties. Jean-Paul retained the Domaine Jamet name, working with his wife Corinne and, from 2013, their son Loïc, while Jean-Luc created his own estate under his own name, based on the Lancement plateau.
The vineyards
Domaine Jamet farms a growing collection of lieux-dits — the estate has cited sixteen, soon to be nineteen — and the standard Côte-Rôtie is blended from as many as twenty parcels spanning both Côte Brune and Côte Blonde. Named sites include Chavaroche, Fongeant, Côte Rozier and Landonne. Schist and granite soils.
In the glass
Whole-bunch fermentation, with the 2021 at around 90 per cent whole clusters, matured mostly in older demi-muids and barrels for some 22 months. The result is classic, structured and deliberately non-flashy. The 2013 fraternal split is one of the Northern Rhône's most-discussed family divisions. Both brothers now make excellent wine, but Domaine Jamet retains the historic name and reputation. Jamet's whole-bunch style is a deliberate counterpoint to Guigal's new-oak signature.
