Why we follow Jacques Selosse
The estate
The most influential grower in modern Champagne, based in Avize in the Côte des Blancs. Founded in 1949 by Jacques Selosse; his son Anselme took over in the 1970s and revolutionised grower Champagne with Burgundian terroir thinking, oak fermentation, oxidative handling, low dosage and perpetual-reserve methodology. Anselme retired in 2018 and handed the domaine to his son Guillaume, who had been making wine at the estate for close to a decade and runs it today.
The vineyards
Around 7.5 hectares, mostly Grand Cru Chardonnay in the Côte des Blancs at Avize, Cramant and Oger, plus some Pinot Noir in the Montagne de Reims. Organic and low-intervention farming.
In the glass
Barrel fermentation, oxidative Burgundian handling, very low dosage, and a solera-style perpetual reserve for the Substance cuvée. Production averages around 58,000 bottles a year. Anselme was named France's best winemaker across all categories by Gault-Millau in 1994. The solera idea came from a visit to the sherry producers of Jerez in the 1970s. His own description of the job: "For me, there is no winemaking. I am just a butler, I am not a boss."

How allocations are offered
It records which producers and wines interest you, so we know who to contact when a release is confirmed.
Availability depends on what arrives and how many customers are waiting. In some years there is very little to go round.
Our team considers purchase history, genuine interest and intended enjoyment. We would rather a case went to someone who will open it and tell us what they thought than to whoever asked first.
Change what you follow at any time from My allocation requests. Release timing moves with the producer and the vintage, so the months on the release calendar are a guide rather than a promise.
