Why we follow Krug
The estate
The Reims prestige house founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, owned by LVMH and still involving the Krug family through Olivier Krug, the sixth generation. Julie Cavil has been chef de cave since January 2020, the first woman in the role, succeeding Eric Lebel; she joined Krug in 2006. The house philosophy is to make only prestige cuvées, recreating the multi-vintage Grande Cuvée every year regardless of conditions.
The vineyards
A négociant house drawing on a vast reserve-wine library of more than 150 wines and on long grower relationships. The Clos du Mesnil, planted to Chardonnay, and Clos d'Ambonnay, planted to Pinot Noir, are tiny walled-vineyard monopoles.
In the glass
All base wines ferment in small old oak casks, with extensive individual-parcel vinification and long cellar ageing. Every bottle carries a Krug ID. The editions numbering and the Krug ID system communicate that Grande Cuvée is a blend made anew each year, not a fixed recipe. Joseph Krug's founding idea — uncompromising quality every year through multi-vintage blending — helped define the prestige non-vintage category.

How allocations are offered
It records which producers and wines interest you, so we know who to contact when a release is confirmed.
Availability depends on what arrives and how many customers are waiting. In some years there is very little to go round.
Our team considers purchase history, genuine interest and intended enjoyment. We would rather a case went to someone who will open it and tell us what they thought than to whoever asked first.
Change what you follow at any time from My allocation requests. Release timing moves with the producer and the vintage, so the months on the release calendar are a guide rather than a promise.
