Wendouree Cabernet Malbec is based on rare 19th-century vine stock material including malbec plantings from between 1898 and 1960, which provide the wine complexity, interest and a variation of theme. After traditional vinification, maturation takes place in new (20%) and seasoned French oak. This is a profoundly individual wine with intense, bright fruit, underlying maturation notes and firm but pronounced tannins.(Langton's)

A brighter and lighter expression with some eucalypt and what I call dry Australian bush character of leaves, bark and wild grasses. This is sitting firmly in the red fruit spectrum. The palate starts out very fine and supple on entry, tannins build through red fruit and licorice flavor; there’s creeping length here, holding elegant and long.

If there's anything in particular I really like about Wendouree, then it's their Malbec. Blackcurrant, boysenberry, a fair layer of cedar oak, aniseed, and that blue coloured thing going on " violets and blue skinned plums. Medium to full bodied, clearly defined with firm powdery, almost milky tannin, some subtle astringency on the finish, but all up a very good wine. It's maybe the best, most complete, red I've tasted from this South Australian vintage.
