Pierro and their Chardonnay
"Since the mid 1980s Mike Peterkin has crafted a chardonnay of not only monumental power, but of simultaneously smooth and silky delivery. Pierro Chardonnay is the role model for so many of Australia's more opulent and hedonistically proportioned chardonnays and is a stunning expression of Margaret River chardonnay."
Jeremy Oliver
Mike Peterkin established the Pierro Vineyard in Willyabrup in 1980. This small family winery has crafted some of Margaret River's most exciting and stylish wines in the subsequent 43 years. Their Chardonnay is simply monumental and is one of Australia's iconic wines.
96 Points - Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion
100% mlf, matured in French oak (50% new) for 12 months. Some wines demand a minute before you can put words to them. This has tremendous length of flavour, such is the quality of the fruit, that it just forges on and on. Suffice to say, the full mlf style has helped accentuate creamy, powerful fruit, and seamlessly applied oak caresses it through the finish. This is very pure – crystalline in fact – but it is very young right now.

For those who got it right, it seems 2019 was a very good vintage in Margaret River for Chardonnay. Pierro got it right. Beautiful concentration and intensity. It’s slippery and glossy, but has delicious fine acid cutting through. I’m thinking lime and pear, nougat, and cougar-like poise and power. Sage and butter, pink grapefruit and spice. Finish is long and tight and offers gentle grip as it goes. Welcome to the pleasure zone. You have country and western here. Great Chardonnay.
