Lake's Folly

Lake's Folly was founded in 1963 by Dr Max Lake, a hand surgeon, author and wine show judge, who planted Cabernet on a single site in the Hunter Valley and made the first vintage in 1966. Chardonnay followed in 1969. James Halliday describes it as the first of Australia's weekend wineries to sell its wine commercially.

About Lake's Folly

The estate makes two wines, both from its own 13 hectares: the Cabernets, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Shiraz, and a barrel-fermented Chardonnay made without malolactic fermentation. Peter and Lee Fogarty bought Lake's Folly in 2000, and Rodney Kempe has made the wines since then.
