Why we follow Wendouree

The estate

The vineyard was planted in 1892 by Alfred Percy Birks and his brother, and Roly Birks made the wine there for most of the twentieth century. In 1974 Max Liberman bought the property and asked his daughter Lita and her husband Tony Brady to take it on; they have run it since, with Stephen George as long-standing consultant. Wendouree makes a small volume of unirrigated old-vine Clare Valley reds — Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Mataro, straight and in blends — from vines dating back to the 1890s, and sells almost entirely direct.
