Average Critic Score: 94.67/100

A rare three-vintage magnum collection from one of the great names of Saint-Julien.

Château Léoville Las Cases sits at the serious end of the Médoc, long regarded as a Second Growth with First Growth presence. Its Grand Vin comes from the historic heart of the former Léoville estate, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc giving the wine its unmistakable line: structured, polished, deeply mineral and built for time.

This collection brings together three very different chapters of Léoville Las Cases in magnum. The 1981 offers mature Bordeaux character, with cedar, tobacco, spice and currant notes now well into its drinking window. The 2001 is classic Las Cases, still composed and powerful, with cassis, graphite, cigar box and fine structure. The 2011 shows the more restrained, Cabernet-driven side of the château, with dark fruit, mineral tension and the firmness to keep evolving.

Presented in 1.5L magnum format, this is a collector’s set with real cellar presence: one mature bottle to open with care, one beautifully poised vintage entering its stride, and one younger expression for those who like their Saint-Julien with structure, freshness and time ahead.

Critic Reviews

91 Points - Henk Schuitemaker, Wine Spectator

“1981 - Crisp and elegant, a nicely crafted wine, with tobacco- and cedar-scented blackberry, currant and cherry flavors. Beautifully balanced and superbly crafted, lacking only the depth the better vintages have.--Léoville Las Cases vertical. Drink now through 1996.”

97 Points - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

“2001 - A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000.”

96 Points - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

“2011 - Huge structure, huge potential, a wine that will bring out all the fruit and density of the vintage while remaining very fresh. Black plums are already showing strongly along with the dry core that promises aging. It's serious while alive and bright. Drink this major wine from 2022.”
