Whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented in French barriques (25% new), no mlf, matured for 9 months. Its Reserve sibling has the complexity that this adroitly sidesteps, contesting its own ground with feline grace, every part of its body precisely shaped and weighted, leaving the palate with an airy freshness that will never tire you.

Attractive flinty and minerally reductive notes across vibrant lemon citrus, but it is pared back peach fruits. The palate is fuelled by punchy and crunchy acid. The piercing drive here is impressive. Drink or hold.

Both of Xanadu’s Reserve and Stevens Road chardonnays from 2016 are outstanding wines. My personal preference is for this Stevens Road but it’s splitting hairs.
This is elegant and fine but the purity of fruit, overall polish, hit of flavour and extension through the finish all combine to lend it a sense of impact. Everything here is delivered with the power of precision. Green pineapple, white peach, lemon curd, cream and splashes of spice. It’s delicious, it’s impressive, it’s going to age beautifully.
