Average Critic Score: 93.5/100 based on 2 critic reviews

Echezeaux is the sprawling Grand Cru beside Clos de Vougeot, and Les Rouges du Bas is one of its most respected lieux-dits. Bouchard Pere & Fils, the historic Beaune negociant and domaine, made very little of this wine in the frost-hit 2021 vintage, which only sharpens interest in the bottles that exist. The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru Les Rouges du Bas was vinified with whole bunches and earned 92-94 points from Neal Martin (Vinous) and 91-93 points from William Kelley (Wine Advocate), both praising its harmony and purity.

The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru opens in the glass with notions of dark berries, vine smoke, baking chocolate and grilled meats, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and lively palate that's suave and elegant. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate (91-93 pts)

A Grand Cru to tuck away for a few years and enjoy as the whole-bunch spice settles into the fruit.

Critic Reviews

94 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous

“There is just one new 400-liter barrel of the 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru and is 100% whole bunch. It has a nicely detailed bouquet, though I feel there is maybe a little too much stemminess at the moment, not that Frederic Weber had ample choice given the depleted volume. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, very harmonious and pure. The stems are more enmeshed towards the lightly spiced finish. Lovely. But it will need time. (92-94 pts)”

93 Points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

“The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru opens in the glass with notions of dark berries, vine smoke, baking chocolate and grilled meats, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and lively palate that's suave and elegant. Sadly, only one barrel was produced. (91-93 pts)”
