Just over a hectare in Les Duresses, Monthelie's best-known premier cru. It lies in the cool side valley on the western edge of the Cote de Beaune, right on the Auxey-Duresses boundary - the two communes share the climat name across the line. Bathonian limestone under brown calcareous clay, and the coolest siting in Lafon's red range.
This is very aromatically pretty, even perfumed, with its array of ripe red and dark fruit aromas that are cut with spice wisps. There is both excellent energy and detail to the lightly stony middle weight flavors that conclude in a balanced and youthfully austere finale.
