En Caradeux is Pernand's leading premier cru, climbing from the roadside to the top of the slope, and Rapet's parcel is pressed in whole bunches and raised in large casks with a little new oak and a cement egg. It marks a clear step up in density and reach, its orchard fruit and white-flower lift carried on a creamy texture and a long, stony finish. One to open from 2028.

Domaine Rapet Père et Fils (Pernand-Vergelesses)
Farming the hill of Corton since 1765, led by Vincent Rapet with son Robin. A reference for Corton-Charlemagne across twenty hectares of old vines, with reds that have risen to match the whites.

Critic Reviews

94 Points - Charles Curtis MW, Decanter

“Boasting aromas of ripe pear and Mirabelle plums, with hints of acacia flowers and spice, the premier cru En Caradeux is a step up in concentration and complexity, with a dense, creamy texture and a finish driven by the extract. The grapes are from a 0.6ha parcel that runs from the D18 road to the top of the premier cru band. They are pressed as whole clusters and lightly settled before fermentation in 350-litre casks (20% new), supplemented by one cement egg. Drinking Window: 2028 - 2050”

92 Points - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

“Opening in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, wet stones and white flowers, framed by a deft touch of reduction, Rapet's 2023 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux Blanc is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with terrific cut and energy, this is another particularly successful cuvee this year. Original score: RP 92+”

92 Points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

“Their holding touches the restaurant Le Charlemagne. 20% has been made in egg and 20% in new wood. Mid lemon yellow. There is clearly more density here in En Caradeux and a more balanced ripeness. Excellent on the palate with the sunshine just showing in a couple of more exotic fruit notes alongside the core fresh white orchard fruit. Notable length, with just the right acidity. Original score: 90-92 points”
