From Bollinger:
Each new edition of the Bollinger PN cuvée brings with it a singular and contemporary vision of the Maison’s terroir and expertise, acting as a symbol of the union between tradition and innovation. Today, Bollinger welcomes a new edition into their range: PN VZ19. The base year is a 2019. The principal cru is Verzenay. The result of a Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Noir, designed to make terroir the star of the show.
This new PN VZ19 edition, with its unique taste, is a new interpretation.
Food Pairing: Breton lobster, roasted summer vegetables, spiced tomato juice
A true summer delight, roasted Breton lobster with summer vegetables is an ode to freshness and flavour. This dish is a celebration of the elegant flavours of Breton lobster, served with crunchy green beans, heritage courgettes and corn, lifted by a spicy tomato jus.The basil and bouquet garni bring subtle herb notes. This dish is perfect with PN VZ19, providing a perfectly balanced fine dining experience; the wine’s silky texture and saline finish bring out the richness of the summer flavours.
96 Points - James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
Very deep and youthful nose with a cornucopia of candied citrus and red berries, as well as a touch of herb. Stunning depth of chalky character and fantastic mineral freshness make this really stand out. Dramatic, yet so elegant at the very long finish. 100% pinot noir, of which 50% is from Verzenay and that gives it it’s name. The reserve wines are all Verzenays from 2006, 2009 and 2015.
95 Points - Tom Hewson, Decanter
Bollinger continues its quest to highlight its Pinot Noir expertise with arguably the most exciting and focused wine yet in the PN series, focusing on the grand cru village of Verzenay from 2019 (although backed up with reserves from all around the Montagne de Reims and Grande Vallée, 25% of which comes directly from magnums). It weaves a beautiful line between the clear, long and ultra-fine Pinot of Verzenay, mineral and understated, the quiet power of the 2019 vintage, and the stunning complexity of reserves. Roast apricot, scorched orange citrus and soft raspberry fruits are backed up beautifully by toasty nougat, cocoa and dried pear ageing characters. It's a striking wine of persistent, tightly packed quality, holding terrific mid-term potential.
