Marcel Couturier

Marcel Couturier is a Maconnais family domaine in Fuisse, looking over Loche: Chardonnay only, farmed organically and bottled vineyard by vineyard, which is still unusual in this part of Burgundy.

About Marcel Couturier

For years the family sold its grapes to the cooperative. Marcel released his first estate vintage in 2005, and the domaine has since grown to around ten hectares, many of them old vines. His children Auxence and Cladie have joined him, and the vineyards were certified organic in 2021, with biodynamic farming following.

Each vineyard and soil type is picked and made separately, which is why there are so many cuvees from a fairly small estate. The Macon wines are the easy way in, with Pouilly-Loche and then Pouilly-Fuisse above them. The grapes are pressed in whole clusters, then the juice ferments on wild yeast and ages in barrel on fine lees, with less new oak than in the domaine's early years.
