1999 Houghton Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon

Critic Reviews
97 Points - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion
“A blend of cabernet sauvignon and malbec from Frankland River, a true tribute to the wine style of the late Jack Mann. Dense purple-red, the rich and concentrated bouquet oozes sweet blackcurrant/cassis, the huge, ultra-concentrated fruit of the palate balanced by appropriately firm tannins and lavish oak.”
94 Points - Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate
“Aromatically, the 1999 Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon is fresh and aniseed-y, with loads of lifted spices and dark fruits. The acidity is very high, but it works within the age of the wine. With dark chocolate and dark plums, mulberry and tobacco, this is leaner and spicier than the prior wines. There is plenty of time to go before this one sleeps. There is a high proportion of Malbec this year, the highest, at 30%, and 60% to 80% new oak was used. It has a low pH and high acid, which is the method/theme of Larry Cherubino. Perhaps this is a way to manage Brettanomyces as we head into difficult territory?”
