Average Critic Score: 92.5/100 based on 2 critic reviews

Mount Mary is one of the Yarra Valley's founding estates and its Pinot Noir is made in a deliberately understated, Burgundian register that prizes perfume and finesse over power. The 2004 Mount Mary Pinot Noir is true to that house style, with Josh Raynolds (Vinous) awarding 92 points for its lacy delicacy and uncanny precision, and James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion) giving 93 points for a delicate, perfumed and pure wine. A mature, graceful Pinot for those who favour elegance.

Suave, perfumed aromas of red berries and blood orange complicated by fresh rose and zesty minerals. Lacy, delicate and poised, with uncanny precision to the sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors... The silky finish features fine-grained tannins and excellent length. - Josh Raynolds, Vinous (92 pts)

A wine to serve slightly cool and with food that lets its perfume lead.

Critic Reviews

93 Points - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion

“Light but bright hue; delicate, perfumed and pure; lovely fruit flavours and good length; needs just a touch more intensity.”

92 Points - Josh Raynolds, Vinous

“Pale red. Suave, perfumed aromas of red berries and blood orange complicated by fresh rose and zesty minerals. Lacy, delicate and poised, with uncanny precision to the sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors. Subtle earth and meat notes emerge with air but the emphasis is on graceful red fruit. The silky finish features fine-grained tannins and excellent length. This may be too understated for fans of most New World pinot.”
