"A serious Bin 407!"
"A surprisingly good follow-up to the fleshy 2006."
94 Points - Jeremy Oliver
92 Points - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion (Tasted 1 Mar 2010)
Strong red-purple; has clear blackcurrant fruit, some notes of chocolate (a McLaren Vale component?) and strong tannins - are those tannins the reason for the very ordinary cork? Needs time.
91+ points - Campbell Mattinson
"This is a fine, elegant, well-ripened wine of medium-weight and medium quality. It tastes of olives and blackcurrant and spicy, cedary, musky French oak. It has fresh, varietal appeal and a nice clip of tannin. It was a difficult vintage and they've produced a decent wine from it. There's a musky, vanillin note to the aftertaste that is pure Penfolds. I'd expect it to score slightly higher in time."
Penfolds Rewards of Patience Edition 7
Medium-deep crimson. Blackcurrant, mocha, herb garden aromas with roses, ironstone
notes. Classic wine with black olive, cassis/blackcurrant fruit flavours and fine, muscular,
leafy tannins. Finishes chalky firm and tight. An early-drinking style but should hold for a
while.
