The Omrah Cabernet Merlot was Plantagenet's more accessible red, built for earlier drinking but with the structure to reward patience. The 2007 Great Southern vintage was a good, consistent year for red varieties, and Jeremy Oliver awarded 90 points, describing it as elegant and stylish with cassis, raspberry and dark cherry fruit supported by fine-grained tannins. At 18 years of age the wine has moved into comfortable maturity: the oak is fully integrated, the fruit is savoury and composed, and the finish retains good length. Drinking well now.

90 Points - Jeremy Oliver, Oliver's Wines

“Good crimson; a thoroughly enjoyable upper level commercial wine, with a juicy display of black and redcurrant fruits, supple tannins and good balance. About Plantagenet Founded in 1968, Plantagenet has been imbued with the pioneering spirit of Tony Smith, the founder who envisaged great things for his land in Mount Barker, and so – established the very first Great Southern commercial sized Vineyards. After a long-standing association with Plantagenet Wines, the Lionel Samson (founded in 1829) Sadleirs Group progressively acquired Plantagenet shareholding until full ownership in 2000 – when the first order of business was to retain Tony Smith as Chairman of the company. A pioneer of the Great Southern region, Plantagenet embodies the best of Western Australia with its distinctive, elegant wines. Steeped in a rich heritage, Plantagenet’s expressive wines and family-owned sensibility make it one of the most trusted wine brands in the country. Producing around 30,000 Dozen cases of wine annually, Plantagenet exports to the UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore as well as also supplying the domestic market. Today, Plantagenet continues to be a family-owned business with Tom (a descendant of Lionel Samson) & Jo Wisdom at the helm and a vision to create wines of provenance and distinction that truly reflect the outstanding potential of the Great Southern wine region. plantagenetwines.com.au Plantagenet’s Accolades… The company has received multiple accolades in this time, taking home awards at the National Cool Climate Wine Show, Sydney International Wine Competition, Perth Royal Wine Show, Royal Melbourne Wine Show, Qantas Wine Show of Western Australia, Canberra International Riesling Challenge, and more. In 2015, it was also awarded Gourmet Traveller’s Large Cellar Door of the Year, Great Southern – further endorsement of the wonderful facility and service it provides. scoop.com.au Plantagenet has five estate vineyards in the mount Barker sub region each with unique characteristics, ancient soils and cool maritime climates expressing wines of provenance, quality, and prestige.
