Overview:
The ebullient Alix Millot has been making the wines in succession to her father Jean-Marc since 2016, though he is still very much in evidence in a supporting role. Alix is one of the young Burgundians born in the late 1980s who are providing a dynamic resurgence to an already flourishing Burgundy.
She uses 20% new wood for village and 1er cru wines, typically 30% for the grands crus, and aims for a light hand on extraction. The Savigny and Côte de Nuits Villages vineyards come from her paternal grandfather, while her maternal grandfather, Henri Gouroux, had the Vosne-Romanée vineyards. The Clos de Vougeot is from the Grand Maupertui sector, and labelled as such, while a couple of barrels from the oldest vines (planted in 1949) of their Echezeaux are now bottled separately.

Roast beef, redcurrants, meat, earth – that combination of scents that makes up the rarest of burgundy. Refined tannins. (RH)
Producer tasting notes: (2007 vintage):
Red fruits and minerality intertwine, giving the Echézeaux a beautiful finesse and great elegance. The wine shows a beautiful length. The assembly of the three plots brings a beautiful complexity thanks to: the depth of the "Echézeaux du dessus", the minerality of the "Clos St Denis" and the finesse and femininity of the "Poulaillères". Its color is deep ruby red and it has all the seriousness of Grands Crus. - Jean-Marc Millot
