Average Critic Score: 93.67/100 based on 3 critic reviews

From the Martinenga monopole in the heart of Barbaresco, Camp Gros is Marchesi di Gresy's most serious wine, a Riserva drawn from the finest section of the vineyard. The cooler 2014 season produced a Nebbiolo of tension and precision, and the 2014 Marchesi di Gresy Barbaresco Camp Gros Riserva is one of the vintage's clear successes: 95 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous), 94 points from Monica Larner (Wine Advocate) and 92 points from James Suckling. Bright, chalky and finely etched, it is Barbaresco for those who love energy over weight.

Marchesi di Gresy's 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is a vibrant, finely-sculpted wine that captures the natural austerity of the year beautifully. Chalk, mint, pine, blood orange, rose petal and bright red cherry all develop in the glass, but it is really the wine's sizzling energy and tension that stand out most. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous (95 pts)

Critic Reviews

95 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“Marchesi di Gresy's 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is a vibrant, finely-sculpted wine that captures the natural austerity of the year beautifully. Chalk, mint, pine, blood orange, rose petal and bright red cherry all develop in the glass, but it is really the wine's sizzling energy and tension that stand out most. This is an especially nervous style, and yet all the elements meld together so naturally. Pine, mint, cedar, tobacco, dried herbs add an attractive savory nuance as the wine starts to open up in the glass. The 2014 needs at least a few years in bottle, that is abundantly clear.”

94 Points - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

“Released with numbered bottles, the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is stitched together with fine silk threads. This expression weaves out a delicate embroidery of aromas with fine berry tones, smoke, tar, licorice and earthy white truffle notes. The bouquet starts off slowly but definitely builds in intensity. That delicate structure translates to a mouthfeel that is fine, elegant and satiny in texture.”

92 Points - James Suckling

“Freshly brewed peppermint tea, cedar, walnuts and tar on the nose set the framework for this Barbaresco. The full-bodied palate is quite round and fleshy, caressing the mouth with its gentle tannins and soft fruit. Touch of herbs on the finish. Drink from 2021.”
