La Romanee is the highest premier cru on the Chassagne hillside, a cool, stony site that gives the most tightly wound wine of the range. Cropped at very low yields in 2023, it trades flesh for tension: vivid citrus and white peach, a flash of wet stone, all drawn out long and fresh. Often the most age-worthy of Morey's Chassagne crus. Best from 2026 onward.

Morey-Coffinet (Chassagne-Montrachet)
Run by Thibault Morey, widely called the rising star of Chassagne, farming organically since 2018. Holdings include Bâtard-Montrachet and top premier crus; precise, mineral whites and silky reds.

Critic Reviews

94 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous

“The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanee 1er Cru is a step up from the En Cailleret, just as I found last year-perhaps because it was cropped at the lowest yield after some of the crop was lost to oidium. Suddenly, more tension and mineralite come through, with touches of petrichor and vibrant citrus fruit. The palate is taut and fresh, with well-integrated oak, commendable depth and a very harmonious finale of peach skin and yellow plum. What a lovely Chassagne this is going to be. (Drink between 2026-2042) Original score: 92-94 points”

92 Points - Allen Meadows, Burghound

“Here too there is a suggestion of the exotic with its jasmine tea, dried tangerine peel, spice and pretty floral-suffused aromas. The super-sleek and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors that are at once seductive and mineral-driven while displaying excellent persistence on the balanced finale. This should amply repay up to a decade of keeping. (Drink starting 2031)”

92 Points - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

“Pale yellow. A little soft oak on the nose. Coconut too on the palate. I would like a little more grip here. Soft pillow of white fruits. Fair acidity at the finish, La Romanee doesn't quite have the length of finish this year. Original score: 90-92 points”
