Collection: Dessert Wines
Dessert wines represent some of the most complex and age-worthy bottles produced anywhere in the world. Botrytis-affected wines from Sauternes, late harvest Riesling from Germany and Austria, and Australian botrytised Semillon all share the ability to age over decades, developing layers of dried fruit, honey and oxidative complexity that can outlast many red wines.
Sauternes is Bordeaux's great sweet wine appellation, producing botrytis-affected Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle from vineyards in the southern Graves. Chateau d'Yquem is the appellation's sole Premier Cru Superieur and the world's most celebrated dessert wine, but the broader classification includes many estates producing wines of the highest quality. The best bottles can age for 50 years or more, moving from golden and honeyed to deep amber with notes of dried fruit, saffron and caramel.
This collection includes bottles from the full spectrum of sweet wine styles - from the great estates of Sauternes to Australian liqueur wines. The best of these wines are as serious as any dry red or white in the cellar and deserve to be treated accordingly.
