A reliable and well-regarded vintage in the Great Southern, scoring 90 points on release. The 1998 Plantagenet Shiraz shows the region's characteristic combination of cracked pepper, dark plum and granite-influenced savouriness, matured for 16 to 18 months in French oak before bottling. Now softened by 27 years in bottle, those elements have integrated into something composed and measured. The palate retains good definition and length while the tannins are fully resolved. A classic example of what Mount Barker Shiraz looks like at full maturity.
