First produced in 1988, Nine Popes is regarded as the wine that kick started the Grenache revival in Australia in the late 1980's / 1990's

Inspired by the classic 'GSM' blends of Châteauneuf-Du-Pape, it stands as a beacon of quality amongst other great 'GSM' blends and is a classic example of quality dry grown, old vines in the Barossa Valley.

“Charlie Melton, one of the Barossa Valley's great characters, with wife Virginia by his side, makes some of the most eagerly sought after à la mode wines’ in Australia.”

Critic Reviews

95 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion

“Fragrant, spicy aromas; has far more structure than many such blends, but not over the top; a delicious compote of black fruits, red fruits and a variety of spices. ”

93 Points - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front

“There’s a lot to love here though its true beauty will be more apparent in five years. Plus. The palate’s nervy, but the swift drive of earthy, peppered, stony flavour matched to blackberried / raspberried / port-like fruit should all develop majestically. Dry on the finish, with grippy-but-fine tannins. Assertive oak should recede in time.”

92 Points - Josh Reynolds, Vinous

“Dark red. Vibrant, lively and assertive on the nose, with aromas of plum, redcurrant, cherry, espresso and potpourri. Supple, suave and concentrated, with dark berry, chocolate, tarragon and oak spice flavors perked up by a hint of dill. Finishes a bit wound-up, flavor-wise, but with lush, supple tannins.”
