Critic Reviews

98 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion

“There is always cause to genuflect in the presence of chardonnay royalty, such as that of Leeuwin Estate. It imposes its will without a flicker of effort; the line between citrus and stone fruit, and between oak and mineral comes and goes, leaving you grasping at straws; it's a wine of flawless balance, line and length. Special. (Drink by 2031)”

96 Points - Sarah Ahmed, Decanter

“Made from the notoriously low-yielding Gin Gin clone, its rich burnish of cedar and vanillin oak plays second fiddle to the heady rock melon and perfumed dried pear fleshing out this wine's long, steely backbone of grapefruity acidity. A compelling combination of power, precision and persistence, which accounts for this wine's famous longevity.”

94 Points - Josh Raynolds, Vinous

“Pale, green-tinged gold. Potent scents of lime pith, orange, iodine and white flowers, with an intense mineral overlay. Juicy, tightly focused and concentrated, offering nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors complicated by anise, chamomile and a hint of buttered toast. Shows superb energy and clarity on the finish, which clings with serious, mineral-dominated tenacity. I was reminded of a very serious Chablis here.”

93 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

“There's a certain stoicism about Art Series Chardonnay - an immovability in style. Classic entry of grilled nuts, nougat oak, fresh sliced white flesh stone fruit. Wood is prominent but the acid cut makes a meal of the fleshy to firm, rounded, creamy texture though the cedar-and-vanilla amplitude of oak lingers through the finish. Big, bold, hedonist's chardonnay lathed and preened, summoning power and depth of fruit with flex of wood, done well. Solid release. (93+ pts)”
