Average Critic Score: 96.75/100 based on 4 critic reviews

White Hermitage at its most opulent: De l'Oree is M. Chapoutier's single-parcel Marsanne from the Murets climat, farmed biodynamically and made in tiny quantities relative to the estate's reds. The 2018 M. Chapoutier De l'Oree Ermitage Blanc combines voluptuous weight with surprising freshness, and the scores reflect it. Kevin Davy (James Suckling) gave it 98 points, calling it enveloping and irresistible, Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate) rated it 96-98 points, Wine Spectator 96 points and Nicolas Greinacher (Vinous) 95 points.

A superb, harmonious, textured and layered Ermitage blanc. On the nose it shows notes of bergamot, dried orange peel, mild spices, raw almonds and hints of quince peel. It's medium-bodied, yet it has so much volume on the palate. Seductive with a caressing texture... Enveloping and irresistible. - Kevin Davy, James Suckling (98 pts)

Suggested drinking window: now - 2035 (Wine Spectator).

Critic Reviews

98 Points - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

“Classy hints of pencil shavings accent the pear, nectarine and melon fruit in the full-bodied, voluptuous 2018 Ermitage de l'Oree. Despite the wine's ample richness and weight, it's surprisingly fresh and zesty, with hints of citrus zest and brine lingering on the finish. (96-98 pts)”

98 Points - Kevin Davy, James Suckling

“A superb, harmonious, textured and layered Ermitage blanc. On the nose it shows notes of bergamot, dried orange peel, mild spices, raw almonds and hints of quince peel. It's medium-bodied, yet it has so much volume on the palate. Seductive with a caressing texture. Wisely oily, yet it remains aerial, agile and lively. There is minerality here, with a vertical dimension at the center bringing vitality to the coating palate. Enveloping and irresistible. Subtle, lingering finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.”

96 Points - Wine Spectator

“This is creamy-edged, but with a racy spine, brightness and energy, showing floral lift amid a mix of white peach, white nectarine and mango flavors. The long finish is threaded with chamomile and verbena notes. Drink now through 2035. 52 cases imported.”

95 Points - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

“The delicious 2018 Ermitage Blanc De L'Oree sits in a beautiful drinking spot. Golden apple, dried chamomile, cedar, dried blossom and toasty touches jump out of the glass. A spoon of honey adds more complexity. Touching the full-bodied palate with high flavor concentration, the 2018 is a powerful, eccentric De L'Oree that draws to a close with abundant length on the sapid finish, where toasty nuances make a second appearance.”
